Spot in the Woods – Our community

Dog friendly

We have a real affection for nature and our surroundings and we are dog friendly. This includes the ever-enthusiastic Malmsey, Nina’s pride and joy! This extends to our bedrooms where there are rooms with patios and open space. We also have cushions for dogs and water bowls.

We support 2 amazing local charities: Barrett’s Wessex, who’s aim is to provide support for those with oesophageal cancer in Southampton, Wessex and beyond. And Forest Forge Theatre company based in Ringwood, who create wonderful performances for all to enjoy.

And this festive season we are supporting the Wave 105 Mission Christmas Appeal – drop off your new gifts under our tree, to then be given to local disadvantaged children – thank you.

Lifestyle & Heritage

Spot in the Woods is a lifestyle experience. In our Shop we champion local artisan crafts people. Read more on our Shop page.

After 10 years of running Hotel TerraVina, Nina and Gerard made an exciting new beginning, creating Spot in the Woods. This new venture has been created to give our valued customers a new but wonderful experience.

Gerard Basset sadly passed away surrounded by his family earlier this year. He had fought a brave battle against cancer of the oesophagus since 2017. Gerard was the first and remains the only individual to have held the excruciatingly challenging Master of Wine qualification simultaneously with the Master Sommelier, MBA Wine Business and MSc from the International Organisation of Vine and Wine.

The crowning glory of his career came in April 2010 – he won the World Sommelier Championship, cementing his extraordinary domination of the industry.

“Both Romané and I are profoundly grateful for the support we have received from our friends across the world. Including the many in the wine and hospitality industries and to know that Gerard was so loved by all those who knew him.” Nina Basset
